St Benedict’s Preparatory School hosted a very successful Under 11 tennis tournament on 23 and 24 July 2011. The format was a Quarter Final with a Comprehensive Backdraw. Each team played three fixtures. The Singles matches were decided over the best of three sets and the Doubles matches were decided over one Pro Set. In the Quarter Finals Fairland beat Hennopspark (4-2), St Benedict’s beat Cornwall Hill (6-0), Pretoria-Oos beat St David’s (4-2) and Louw Geldenhuys beat Truida Kestell (6-0). In the Semi Finals, Fairland beat St Benedict’s (5-1), while Louw Geldenhuys beat Pretoria-Oos (6-0). In the Backdraw Semi Finals, Truida Kestell beat St David’s (4-2) and Hennopspark beat Cornwall Hill (3-1). In the Final, Louw Geldenhuys beat Fairland (3-1). The hosts beat Pretoria-Oos (4-0) in the 3rd/4th playoff. Hennopspark beat Truida Kestell (3-1) in the 5th/6th playoff and Cornwall Hill beat St David’s (3-1) in the 7th/8th playoff. Louw Geldenhuys’ Alec Beckley was the player of the tournament for his unbeaten play against the various number one singles players. The Under 11s are a very enthusiastic bunch of tennis players and it was an absolute pleasure to be involved in such a tournament. The tournament was very well supported by many of the tennis players’ parents, who were very complimentary of the general organisation of the tournament and hospitality provided by St Benedict’s.
